Groundhog Day - the whimsy weather predictor - study a Denoyer chart instead!

GROUNDHOG DAY - Punxsutawney Phil

For the record, Punxsutawney Phil has an accuracy record of only 39% - pretty crappy record if you ask me.  I on the other hand have a goat named Spiros that predicts the weather for me. If he is cold to the touch - its cold outside, wet, it's raining, white, it's snowing, stiff - it's either an ice storm or he's dead. So far he has a 100% accuracy rate - lets make him famous!

Punxsutawney Phil the Groundhog is famous for predicting either 6 more weeks of winter or 6 weeks until spring.  Am I the first person to think - hmmm they both would end up around the same date?

It all started in 1800's Europe, bears and badgers (not the honey badger which is more like a weasel but is so badass it has pretty much zero predators) were used for predicting spring for farmers.  In 1872 after the Germans emigrated to the US - specifically Pennsylvania - the groundhog club was formed.  Bears were hard to come by as they didn't much care for the Amish and since the first US zoo didn't open until 1874 in Pennsylvania (coincidence? I think not) no bears were available and Groundhog Day has been observed ever since.

If your into weather or botany - Denoyer_Geppert has two great lines of charts designed for smarties like you.

  • I am sure this article has touched all the internet viewers,
its really really nice paragraph on building up new webpage.
I’ll right away take hold of your rss feed as I can’t find your e-mail subscription link or newsletter service.
Do you have any? Please allow me know so that I may just subscribe.
Thanks. I have been surfing on-line greater
than three hours these days, yet I never discovered any attention-grabbing article
like yours. It is pretty value sufficient for me. In my view,
if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet can be much more useful than ever before.
