5 Science Charities to Give Back This Holiday Season

Posted by Denoyer Geppert on

The holidays mark an exciting time of the year, but they also remind us to give back to those in need. #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, the global event uses the power of social media to encourage everyone to give back to a cause they care about.

Here at Denoyer-Geppert Science Company, we encourage the advancement of science education. It’s a topic that is vital for our future bright thinkers and the rest of society. If you are looking to donate, here is a list of science-related charities that we recommend.

1. National Center for Science Education

The National Center for Science Education (NCSE) promotes the education of controversial science issues in public schools. Their programs support teachers and engage students in science topics such as evolution and climate change. NCSE also monitors any anti-science legislation and compromised science standards in the United States. Donate $40 or higher to receive a year’s membership to NCSE.

2. Brain Research Foundation

If you study or teach neuroscience, then the Brain Research Foundation is an excellent choice. The foundation supports neuroscience research understanding how a brain functions. Any donation goes directly to new research projects in the field of neuroscience. Based in Chicago, this foundation delivers commitment through research grant programs to advance discoveries of treatments of all neuroscience diseases.

3. AIDS United

Founded in 1988, AIDS United has a mission to end the AIDS epidemic in the United States. They continue to support community-driven responses around the country. Their grant initiatives have funded more than $98 million to various local communities. The organization fulfills their mission through advocacy, donations and research.

4. Nature Conservancy

The Nature Conservancy aims to protect nature and preserve life. For 64 years, this leading conservation organization works around the world to protect important lands and waters. They have protected more than 119 million acres of land and thousands of miles of rivers. Any support helps the Nature Conservancy take action on these environmental issues worldwide.

 5. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) aims to cure childhood cancer one cup at a time. This foundation’s inspiration comes from Alex, who was four when she told her parents she wanted to set up a lemonade stand. But as a child with cancer, her plan was to give the money to doctors to help them find a cure. Today, ALSF raises funds for research into new treatments and cures for childhood cancer.
